A travel column for federal retirees specifically

Nancy's column accounts for the realities of retirement travel — fixed income budgeting, the value of time flexibility (travel when others can't), and the independence that comes from not being tethered to a work schedule. Each column includes website links for local activities and travel resources to assist with the planning process.

Forum Host

Nancy Holston.

Nancy Holston grew up in northern Indiana. After deciding that teaching English wasn't her calling, she enlisted in the U.S. Army — and spent most of her two-year enlistment traveling across Western Europe. That journey was both the beginning of her love for travel and the start of a career of public service.

After leaving the Army, Nancy was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration, where she served until her retirement in August 2008. Throughout her federal career she enjoyed frequent business and personal travel, and made a habit of staying on after business concluded to explore wherever she happened to be — whether familiar territory or somewhere entirely new. That combination of professional travel and personal curiosity built a library of first-hand knowledge she now brings to the forum.

She stayed on after business concluded — to explore wherever she happened to be. That's the spirit this forum brings to travel planning for retirees.

Nancy looks forward to sharing her knowledge of past travels and what she continues to discover. Her columns include destination highlights, practical planning guidance, cost-saving strategies, and the specific websites and resources that make planning easier for retirees who finally have the time to go.
